Good Bye Blog!

Hello Fellow Readers,

It has almost been half a year since I have posted.  Wow, the year went by so fast!  I can not believe that there is only eight days left of school, and that I am going into Grade eight at highland next year!!!  I just wanted to say thank you to all of my readers.  You have wrote really amazing comments which have made me want to write more and more.  To bad I was way to busy during Term two and Term three, or I would have wrote more.  Thanks to all of my friends and ms. Smith who have inspired me to write more and more at home.

Good bye blog!

Hello fellow readers,

Survivor.  The game where you have to outwit, outplay, outlast.  The game where you have barely any food and the weather is horrendous (but mostly beautiful), the game where you miss your loved ones dearly, this is a game where nothing is fair…

My top 5 favorite players from Cambodia Second Chance Are…

Joe Anglim.  As a huge physical threat, Joe is really successful with both tribal and individual immunity challenges.  One of the reasons I like him is because he has won five immunity in a row, that is a lot!  Sadly two days before the final, Joe had his vote stolen by Fishbach and then was voted out.

Jeremy Collins.  Jeremy is also a pretty physical player, he found two hidden immunity idols and one of the plays I can’t believe he did was play his idol for Fishbach.  For me I would never use my immunity for me to save someone else.  Jeremy ended up winning Sole Survivor and everybody voted for him.   One thing I liked about Jeremy was how strategic he was playing.

Kelley Wentworth.  Just like Jeremy, Kelly found two hidden immunity idols which saved her two times when everybody voted for her.  She was getting more and more aggressive and when shew lost immunity she was voted out the day before the finals.
One of the things I like about Kelley Wentworth was that she wasn’t going to wait for the immunity to come to her, she went out and looked for it.

Ciera Eastin. Ciera went into this game with a more of an aggressive approach.  She wanted everyone to “play more aggressive, play more aggressive!”  But bribing everyone made people think of her as annoying.  And when it went into single immunity and not team immunity, she was voted out.  One of the things I liked about Ceira was that she wanted everybody to play a tough game and when nobody was doing that she kept pushing them.

Keith Nale.  Keith kept a low profile.  He was always by himself and nobody ever seemed to really notice him unless they wanted his extra vote for their plan to work.  Once he was blindsided, everybody was telling him that they were voting for Tasha when they were actually voting for someone else.  One thing I liked about Keith is that he seemed to hide all of his strength in the beginning and let it all out at the end.

Here are some facts about Survivor:

  • 29,800,000 people watch Survivor each season (and counting).
  • 442 people have played Survivor and 59 have returned for a second chance of becoming Sole Survivor.
  • 325 crew members help this show by setting up tribal councils, all the challenges and working behind the camera.
  • Survivor has had 52 Emmy nominations.
  • 1,000 dollars was the average amount spent at food actions during one Survivor Season.

That’s all for now, Have you ever watched Survivor before?  If you have who is your favorite cast member?  Why do you have a favorite season of Survivor that seemed the most interesting to you?  Can’t wait to hear all of your comments! Thanks for reading my post!

Sincerely, Abbie

Me and My Shadow

20 Abbie N Shadow art fixed

Hello fellow readers,

Have you ever seen something that seems to be attached to your feet only on a sunny day that looks grayish, and is mirroring your every move?  It’s like your imaginary friend that only comes out when it’s a nice day.  Well, that’s your shadow and it can sometimes be your best friend.

My idea in my art picture was that since I love art, I am posing like I am holding a paint brush and my shadow is a giant paint brush with paint splatters on the wall.  I chose this pose and my shadow because I love doing art, it is one of my favorite hobbies to do.  The thought that I am trying to get across to the readers is that, when you feel down just get out a paint brush and start painting, it really helps get all your feeling out.

My process in the project was 1.  come up with your idea and draw it out on sketching paper.  2.  get your photo taken it a position that you want for you shadow. 3.  draw a line and then cut out you picture.  Then glue your person to your page with it waist around the line. 4.  then draw your shadow with lines connecting from your feet to the feet in the shadow.  5. draw and shade in  your shadow. 6. do your background, you can do what ever design you want! 7. get a picture taken of your photo!  One of the things I did in my picture was value.  Value is a lightness or a darkness of a color.

One of the things I really liked about my project was how there were paint splatters on the wall and the shape of my paint brush.  All of my ideas that I planned worked in my project and I am really proud of what I have done.  This project taught me how to create value and other techniques such as cross hatching and stippling.  Some of the learner traits that were in my project were: I thought that I was a risk taker because I tried new techniques with the bricks, and I was confident with the way I had my shadow and how I was doing cross hatching on the bricks.

If you had to choose a shadow for your project, what would it be?  Why?  Thanks for reading my post, and remember, you shadow is always there when you need it!
Sincerely, Abbie

What am I?

Hello fellow readers,

Have you ever wondered what life would be like if you were living 300,000 years ago?  Would there be rain? Snow? Sunny weather?  Where would you live?  What would you even be? A monkey?  Ok, so you wouldn’t be a monkey, but you would probably have been a Homo Neanderthal, that’s what I would want to be!

If I lived that long ago I would want to be a Neanderthal because they knew how to make and control fire.   Fire is a great resource back then because you were able to; 1. Keep warm 2. Cook food  3. It’s like a friend when you are feeling lonely in the night and it is your turn to watch the fire. And 4. it keeps predators away,  or sometimes attracts them which wouldn’t have turned out well…

Another  reason I would want to be a Neanderthal is because when they migrated, they adapted to all their surroundings and all of the weather so they were able to survive. They would make different shelters which include: a cave with sticks over the entrance so they wouldn’t be cold in the wind and rain.  A  tee-pee with large sticks  with animal skins over the top to keep warm. Wow, that what I’m talking about, A five star hotel!

One last reason I would want to be a Neanderthal is because they were very strong!  That would really come in handy when they were building a shelter and had to move large boulders and logs, and when they were hunting so they could throw far enough and strong enough to actually kill the animal and bring the animals body back their home.  “Who wants some Zebra?”

Thanks everyone for reading my post, if you have any facts on the Homo Neanderthal, please comment below and I would be happy to take time to read them.  I have a question for you, how do you think the Neanderthal prepared their food?

Sincerely, Abbie

A Charlie Brown Christmas

Hello fellow readers,

I know that some of you might yell when I tell you this…
I have never, ever seen or heard of Charlie Brown before, I know crazy right!? My teacher was blown away when I told her this!  And do today we watched the Charlie Brown Christmas, and I am telling you all about it now!

Here below is a video on the making of the Charlie Brown Christmas. It is the Charlie Brown Christmas’s 50th anniversary and this video below tells you all about why they did Charlie Brown, and much time it took to make the movie, the characters and more.

While we were watching the Charlie Brown Christmas movie, we had a sheet where we would fill out questions that we saw in the movie, and then turn one of the questions into a post.

The question I chose was:  What does Sally want for Christmas?  What does Charlie Brown think about it?
For Christmas Sally want lots of big and colourful presents and as many as possible.  Or to make it easy on Santa just lots of cash, 20’s and 30’s bills she would like.  And she makes Charlie Brown write it down for her.  Charlie Brown thinks that her sister is going to commercial when she wants money and big presents, like Snoopy when he is decorating his dog house for the lights and display contest for the grand prize… money!

The second part of the question was:  What advice would you give Sally?
I think the advice I would give Sally is that Christmas is not about big, bright and bouncy presents or all the cash in the world, Christmas is about being around your friends and family, and having a good time.  It doesn’t really matter what is under the tree, spending time with your loved ones is what matters most around this holiday season.

Well that’s all for now, Do you have a favorite peanuts character?   Have you even seen Charlie Brown Christmas before?  What do you think about the video?  Can’t wait to hear all of your comments!

Sincerely, Abbie

Christmas Cookies!

Miniature Xmas Cookies - Preview
 Stéphanie Kilgast via Compfight

Hello Christmas lovers!

Have you ever had the smell of freshly baked cookies fill your nostrils?  Have you ever tasted the sugary flavor of icing when you sneak a lick when your mom isn’t looking?  Have you guessed what I am talking about yet?  That’s right, sugar cookies Christmas style!  I got all my cookie information from Martha Stewart‘s awesome cooking and baking website.  I bake these cookies all the time and they taste DELICIOUS!

Here are the ingredients you will need to bake your cookies:

  • 2 cups of all purpose flour, plus more for rolling out your dough
  •  1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (one stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • And of course, candies sprinkles and other a assorted candies for decorating (optional)  (but I recommend you decorate)

Here are the directions you will need to bake your cookies:

1.  In a large bowl, whisk flour, baking powder and salt. With an electric mixer (in a different bowl), cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla extract.  With the mixer on low, gradually add flour mixture; beat until combined.  Divide the dough in half.  Flatten into a disk shape.  Wrap each half in plastic wrap.  Freeze until firm, at least twenty minutes.

2.  Preheat oven to 325 degrees.  Line baking sheets with parchment.  Remove one dough disk; let in stand for 5-10 minutes.  Roll out 1/8 inch thick between two sheets of floured parchment, dusting dough with flour as needed.  Cut shapes with cookies cutters. (since it is Christmas time, try and get cookie cutters related to Christmas)  Using a spatula, transfer to prepared cookie sheets, (if dough gets soft, chill for 30 minutes)  Re-roll scraps;  cut shapes, keep repeating until you have no cookie dough left.

3.  Bake, rotating half way through, until edges are golden brown, 18-20 minutes. (depending on size)  Cool the cookies on cooling racks.  to ice these Christmas cookies, spread the icing with the back of a spoon.  Wait until the icing has hardened (this will take around 20 minutes)  then decorate away!

Thanks everyone for reading this post.  Baking cookies is one of my favorite things to do  with my family for Christmas.  What is your favorite things to do with your family during the holidays?

Do you have a favorite cookies you like to bake?  If so, please comment below and I would be happy top read them.

Sincerely, Abbie

Santa’s Helpers…

Easter 2011 - Miniature Chocolate Bunny    Limelight...
027/366: Valentine's Day 2013-01-27     Jack-o'-lantern

Chapter one

Hello fellow readers,
Have you ever wondered who fills in for Santa when he’s sick and can’t deliver all the presents?  Have you ever thought of the other holiday characters that might possibly do the job for him?  That’s right, the Easter Bunny,  the Tooth Fairy, the Pumpkin Man and Cupid might in charge this year!

Jack the Pumpkin Man was about to bite into a giant pumpkin pie he was having for dessert, when felt a buzz in his neck, the “Make Kids Happy” members, (Jack, Cupid, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy) all had a chip implanted by Santa into their necks so if it buzzed, it was time for a meeting.  Cupid, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny felt it too.

“Okay, lets call a meeting!”  said the Tooth Fairy, once they were all crowded around the small table in Tabletop Valley (their headquarters).

“Okay, calm down there Toothbrush!”   Jack the Pumpkin Man, cried out, as he slumped lazily in his chair.

“Come on guys, show a little love!”  Cupid replied as he hovered anxiously above the table.

“Don’t be so hoppy C!  laughed the Easter Bunny.

So they sat down for order and talked about their holidays and how everything was going to be planned, but this talk was mostly all about Christmas, how would it be this year?  Would there be carolling all round on every street corner?  Candy canes hanging off of roof tops?  Kids laughing as they pull their homemade sleds? That would all work out this year except for… well, presents and Old Saint Nick flying around in the air!

“So, why is the big fella so sick?”  asked the Jack the Pumpkin Man

When those words were spoken, Cupid turned a really bright colour of red, even brighter than a Valentine’s Day heart!

“Cupid, what did you do?!”  The Tooth Fairy asked, her voice dangerously low.

“Yeah come on C, spill the beans!”  the Easter Bunny said, his voice filled with excitement.

“Nothing I-” stuttered Cupid.

“CUPID!” roared the Tooth Fairy.

“Okay, okay…  I shot him in the bottom with an arrow when I was passing by his office at the North Pole, I went to ask him a question you see.  It looked like he was really in love with a women he was looking at in a picture, and then after I shot him I was to embarrassed to ask the question so I left…”

“And?!” the Tooth Fairy asked while the Easter Bunny and Jack the Pumpkin man were in the middle of a wrestling match.

“Well, I didn’t mean for it to effect his health and make him sick!”

“Well, it did, didn’t it?”

For five minutes there was an awkward silence, even the Easter Bunny and Jack stopped fighting.

“We have to find a solution to this, all those poor little kids with no presents on Christmas, we will have to make something work!”  said the Tooth Fairy, her head high with confidence.

“Yes!” the three boys all said together.

“Wait, how are we going to make this happen?”  Jack said, his head tilted to one side in confusion.

“Boys, get your Santa suits on, we are delivering the presents this year!”

Well that’s all for chapter one of Santa’s little Helpers, come back soon if you want to find out how the trip around the world delivering presents goes for the Tooth Fairy, Cupid, Jack and the Easter Bunny.

Sincerely, Abbie

Harry Potter

Hello fellow readers,

The books Harry Potter is written by a really amazing writer, J.K Rowling.   There are seven books in the Harry Potter series, and they are all fantastically awesome!   There is an awesome site called The Sorting Hat and it decides whether you are in Griffindor,  Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, (the four houses of Hogwarts)  you should definatly check it out!

Here is a summery of on the Harry Potter series:

Harry Potter was the son of Lily Potter (A witch) and James Potter (A wizard), and one of the most famous wizards in the modern time.  He was referred as “the boy who lived”  because he survived the killing curse from the most powerful dark wizard of all times, Voldemort.  He survived because he was protected by his mothers love.  He was left with a scar in the shape of a lightning bolt, the scar was where the curse had hit him.

Voldemort fled shortly after the killing curse was deflected.  Hagrid (half man, half giant)  brought Harry  to number four Privet Drive, where Dumbledore was waiting, one of the greatest and wisest wizards to ever live.  Harry was then placed on the doorstep of his Aunt Petunia Dursley, Uncle Vernon Dursley and  cousin Dudley Dursley’s house.  He was to suffer through being treated like a slave, he had barely enough to eat and had to sleep under the stairs for about nine years!

Number Four, Privet Drive, (Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon’s house.)

This picture above, I took from “The Making Of Harry Potter”  studio, (in England) and it was the actual house they filmed at, (from the outside)

Then on the night of his tenth birthday a owl came and delivered a letter right to him.  Uncle Vernon went mad because no boy that was practically a slave should ever get a letter!  And then Vernon blocked the mail slot to make sure no more letters could get in. But alas!  Thousands and thousands of letters started to pour in trough every entrance of the house they could find, and they were all delivered by owls.

Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia decided to get out of the house because no letters were sure to reach them if they didn’t live in their house, right? Wrong!  Anyways, they rented a house in the middle of the ocean and used a small boat to reach it even though there was a storm going on and lightning was all around them.

When they reached reached the house, they got settled to bed right away, no one seemed to remember Harry’s birthday!  When they where all tucked in and Harry was alone by the fire,  a great big banging noise was coming from the door, it seemed as though someone wanted to get in!  The Dursley’s and Harry braced themselves  for what was to come.

Hagrid, (you met him in the beginning of my post)  burst through the door and strode right at Harry.  Then he asked,

“All ready to go ‘Arry?”

Harry replied,

“What are you talking about?  Who are you?”

“what do ya’ mean?  Hagrid asked?  “You mean you don’t know?”

“Know what?”

“Know that you are a wizard?”  “And a bloody great one!”

Well, that’s all for now , if you want to know what happened to Harry Potter read the books, and trust me, there is lots of adventure!  If you tried out The Sorting Hat, what house were your sorted into?  If you have already read the books, which one was your favourite?  Why?  Can’t wait to hear all of your comments!

Sincerely, Abbie
